Sean Gerber and Paul Hermann are joined by fellow MMM alumni Justin Bolger and Chris Clow to celebrate the life of our brother, John Bierly. We were honored to know him and want to share with you just how special of a person he was. Odds are, however, many of you already know. Listen as we share some of our favorite memories of John and then hear highlights from his tremendous body of work across the Modern Myth Media, Marvel Studios News, and Fandalorians podcasts.

What is life like for Bucky Barnes now that the person who believed in him the most, Steve, is no longer around on a regular basis? We discuss these questions and more before turning our attention toward the return of Zemo and Sharon Carter, plus the MCU debut of John Walker/U.S. Agent!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness needs a new director following the departure of Scott Derrickson. In a bonus podcast this week, Sean Gerber examines the chain of events that led us to this point and examines what "creative differences" may have come up. Did Derrickson favor something too scary? Did Marvel Studios fail to respect his artistic vision? What's next for the film? All of these questions and more are addressed!

#147 MCU 2019 Year-in-Review

Saturday Dec 28, 2019

Saturday Dec 28, 2019

Marvel Studios enjoyed its biggest year ever in 2019, and so did the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Black Panther made history as the first superhero-based movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home each topped $1 billion worldwide. Endgame actually did it twice on the way to becoming the highest-grossing film in global box office history!
After The Infinity Saga came to a close, we learned all about Phase Four via Marvel Studios' Comic-Con and D23 Expo announcements. We spent a month worrying that Spider-Man was leaving the MCU before Disney and Sony finally got a deal done. Then, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige picked up the additional title of Marvel Chief Creative Officer, making him responsible for all Marvel creative on the big screen, small screen, and on the comic book page.
We discuss all of these stories and more in this 2019 year-in-review!

Marvel Television is no more. We already knew the division was being absorbed into Marvel Studios, but now we know much more about how the consolidation is taking shape. Did Marvel Studios play a part in Marvel TV's demise? Hardly, as Marvel TV's fate had already been sealed, perhaps necessitating this reorganization in the first place. It's time to recap what we already knew, what's happening now, and what it all means in the near and distant future for Marvel content on the small screen!

Thursday Dec 05, 2019

We've got our first look at the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios is already crushing it. We break down the awesome teaser trailer for Black Widow shot-by-shot in this episode! We examine what this movie means for Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and how it could impact the future of the MCU, even if it's set in the past.

Wednesday Nov 20, 2019

It's a busy week! We begin with new Marvel Studios release dates in 2022 and 2023. What movies can we expect to fill these dates? Can Marvel Studios handle four movies per year along with its Disney+ series? Then, we review The Infinity Saga Collector's Edition box set with a complete breakdown of all of the exclusive material on the bonus disc. Finally, we look at some Avengers: Endgame surprises on Disney+ and examine the future of how we will watch Marvel (and other) movies at home.

Friday Nov 08, 2019

We begin this week's episode with the exciting news that Peyton Reed will direct the third film in the Ant-Man franchise! Then, we discuss our featured topic: Marvel fatigue. Disney executives say they're not worried about it, but should they be? With Marvel Studios about to increase its output dramatically (especially in 2021), we look at the ways Kevin Feige and company have and can continue to maintain the audience's appetite for more Marvel!
